in 1992, the false memory syndrome foundation was founded by pamela and peter freyd. after their daughter accused peter freyd of sexually abusing her when she was a child, they began to work to advocate for people who had been accused of similar crimes. According to its web site, its purpose is "the examination of the concept of false memory syndrome and recovered memory therapy and advocacy on behalf of individuals believed to be falsely accused of child sexual abuse" (FMSF). It has become an extremely vital part of cases of people defending themselves against allegations of child sexual abuse.
In an article titled "How Do We Know We Are Not Representing Pedophiles," Pamela Freyd (February 29, 1992) suggested that the new organization could not be harboring molesters because "we are a good-looking bunch of people, graying hair, well dressed, healthy, smiling . . ." (dallam)
